List of euro events attended, together with speaking engagements

On February 1 and 2, I participated in a meeting of BBVA Midas in Porto and Lisbon. My  presentation  is available by clicking on the title Is Portugal a victim of the "euro holdup"?

On January 31, I commented on a presentation by Francesco Giavazzi on The economics of the euro at the CEPR executive committee meeting  hosted by Deutsche Bank in London.

On November 24, I participated with Daniel Gros, Robert Boyer and others in a  panel on Is the Euro viable? held at DELTA, drawing on the EACES paper available here

On November 6, I gave the inaugural lecture of the Economics program at the University of Aveiro, titled A European perspective on international financial architecture, based on OECD Development Centre Technical Paper nº 162.

The Eurofin2000 was held in Paris on 15 September, where I presented a paper on Risk Management and Financial Globalisation (with José Braz), available here and on the Development Centre website.

On September 9, I presented a keynote address on The Euro and international financial architecture at the 6th Conference of The European Association for Comparative Economic Studies  (EACES), held in Barcelona. A preliminary version is available here.

On 28 August, I presented OECD Development Centre Technical Paper nº 162 at a panel on the future of Mercosul held at the Central Bank of Argentina.

On 31 May, 2000 I presented From the real to the euro, via the escudo at ISEG in Lisbon, featuring  Álvaro Ferreira da Silva and Rita Martins de Sousa, my co-authors in the paper War, Taxes and Gold: the inheritance of the real. On 18 May, 2000 I had made a similar presentation at  a conference on Atlantic Portugal sponsored by the Portuguese Cultural Center in Paris. The text is available here.

In 1999 my speaking engagements were mostly based on a paper presented at DELTA on 22 January  Moving the escudo into the euro (with Luís Catela Nunes e Francisco Covas), which was subsequently presented at the CEPR European Summer Symposium held in Sintra, Portugal on May 30.
